Global Relay CEO & Founder Warren Roy Named CEO of the Year
Warren Roy’s Vision, Strategy and Leadership at Global Relay Recognized with 2012 British Columbia CEO Award
Vancouver, BC – December 10, 2012 — Warren Roy, CEO of Global Relay, was recently named CEO of the Year in recognition of his exceptional leadership and visionary business strategy. Global Relay s the market leader in cloud-based archiving, messaging and compliance services for the financial world.
Since founding the company in 1999, Warren Roy has built his vision for Global Relay into a reality. Roy transformed Global Relay from a start-up into a profitable international powerhouse — now with more than 215 employees, customers in 90 countries and recognition as the financial industry’s most-trusted technology for the archiving of electronic communications. Today, Global Relay has 5 offices worldwide and serves 16,000 customers including 22 of the top 25 global banks, and has distribution networks worldwide including an exclusive partnership with Thomson Reuters.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Roy leads Global Relay with an inimitable blend of entrepreneurial drive, personal charisma and technical acumen. He provides daily strategic oversight to a team of more than 115 software developers and is the critical link between the technical and business sides of Global Relay. By adopting a software-as-a-service model since Global Relay’s inception in 1999, Roy was an early champion and pioneer in the cloud computing revolution. This same visionary mindset has also fueled the design and development of Global Relay Message, the company’s platform for compliant, mobile and social enterprise messaging services in the financial world.
Community participation and environmental sustainability have been cornerstones of Warren Roy’s leadership at Global Relay. Roy is the mastermind behind the concept and construction of a $20-million, 4-megawatt “green” data center with a capacity of 200 server racks, which dramatically decreases energy consumption by using state-of-the-art eco-friendly technologies. This year also saw the realization of another of Roy’s objectives: Global Relay made a five-year $1 million commitment to become Title Sponsor and Operator of the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix, returning the professional cycling race to Vancouver. Crowds nearing 30,000 packed the streets outside Global Relay’s Vancouver offices to celebrate the rebirth of this historic race.
“What Warren has accomplished at Global Relay is truly stunning,” said Shannon Rogers, President and General Counsel of Global Relay. “Through his vision and tenacity, he built an incredible company. Warren Roy is a uniquely gifted business strategist, technologist and leader.”
The BC CEO Awards are prestigious accolades that judge and reward outstanding management within British Columbia companies according to five criteria: Business Strategy, Financial performance, People Development, Innovation and Social Responsibility/Sustainability. Roy won in the “Private Company Under $50 million” category.
Global Relay was also recently honoured with a “Best Companies to Work For in BC” award by BCBusiness Magazine, recognizing the company’s exceptional ability to attract, reward and retain the best and brightest staff. Global Relay’s astounding 440% 5-year growth rate also earned it positions on the Deloitte Fast 500 and Deloitte Fast 50 lists — annual rankings of the Fastest Growing Technology Companies in North America and Canada.
